An argument I've made many times, figured I'd put it here. Star Wars, when not only Disney but also Dave Filoni and the Clone Wars 3D animated series retconned so much of the previously established, licensed and accepted expanded Universe lore and storylines, it stung. the Mandalorians were neutered into being whipped anti-gun pacifists after the Old Republic and their planet stayed nuked as if the republic kept bombing it. Not to mention turning the Fetts into imposters. which in itself gets all kinds of issues. they made a society and culture which despite their losses kept their warrior spirit and honor code alive when they weren't even the progenitor species that created the culture, and turning them into the opposite of what the franchise had previously held them as.
the current canon of Star Wars isn't something I support and will never be "my Star Wars." the Star Wars pre-Clone Was season 3 is what I'd call "my star wars" where you can count 3 decades of novels, games, and comics as its established canon, where you can look to Karen Traviss' Republic Commando novels as one of the best sources of Mando culture. That and Boba Fett being a Mandalorian who not only was raised as a Mando by his Mando dad, Jango, but even got to become the Mandalore and even helped train Han and Leia's kids. Instead, you get this incredibly confusing storyline of an imposter and his imposter son donning Mandalorian armor who somehow hired Mandalorian mercs and warriors to train the clone army, and even integrate Mandalorian symbols and rank sigils into the iconography of the Republic army. but I guess making the Mandalorians into scared pacifists living in biocubes of transparasteel fearing the Death Watch, the Death Watch, murder-happy bastards who want to go back to their cultures conquest days seen as the "true Mandalorians."
........... so, currently, I don't want to watch anymore Clone Wars stuff, I haven't watched any of the Star wars Rebels series except its premiere and yet I don't know if I want to watch it. Dave Filoni should have been the first big alarm to all us fans saying "something's not right." I should also say, Death of the Author is greatly as play here. the ideology that states that once a work of fiction goes from its creators control and into the public perception, the original goals of the creator become secondary to the will and wishes of the people who consume said media.
So, to Summarize, I don't really care about "Canon Star Wars" cerque Disney buying Lucasfilm, I enjoy the Force Awakens as its own story but don't link it to any of the eu before even Dave filoni's clone wars series. I will have very mixed feelings about the Clone wars series and dave filoni nowadays gives me a sour taste. "My Star Wars" is the vast expanse of novels, comics, games, and the core movies that have been canon from the first Star Wars movie in 1977, to everything going up to the second season of Clone Wars, I like Ahsoka but the properties she's stuck to just isn't something I enjoy like I used to
I'm not saying I don't like Star Wars anymore, but I will say that everything that the current iteration of Star Wars is now has been an entity that disregards the stories that were made before it, and just scavenges what they want to and leave the rest to "Legends." It doesn't mean we can't enjoy the stories we know and love, it just means we have to be more cogniscent of what the current creators are doing to the stories and universe we grew up with.
I hope you all continue to enjoy the stories you like, and please, if you like Disney's Star Wars, keep on enjoying it, just wanted to get this off my chest as it's been hanging there for a while.
